Petrified Forest and Painted Desert

7:06 am and I’m having a cup of coffee before heading out. Jeff and I are excited because we’re meeting our buddy Kevin Grigsby in Sedona today. And it’s only 215 miles! Of course, it’ll take longer because we’re hoping to go through the Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert. Time to get off the bikes for a while and walk some. For some reason I’m thinking of part of an ee cummings poem:

may my heart always be open to little
birds who are the secrets of living
whatever they sing is better than to know
and if men should not hear them men are old

may my mind stroll about hungry
and fearless and thirsty and supple
and even if it’s sunday may i be wrong
for whenever men are right they are not young

It will also mean that we’re entering Arizona which will give me the 49th of the 50 states of the USA that I’ve made it to. Still on the list is Alaska!
